West Iceland is located north of Reykjavik and varies from the popular Golden Circle and South Coast routes. The region has a wide variety of natural attractions, almost everything that Iceland offers. However, many travelers overlook this area, and you probably won’t find large groups of tourists here.
Two main routes for day tours from Reykjavik are known in West Iceland: Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Silver Circle. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is so diverse that it is often referred to as Iceland in a nutshell. It includes a volcano and glacier, lava fields, craters, waterfalls, black beaches, caves, picturesque mountains, quiet fishing villages, and the magnificent rocky cliffs at the ocean coast. The Silver Circle in the Borgarfjordur region is becoming popular in Iceland’s tourism industry. On this itinerary, you will visit the most powerful hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver, the many cascading streams at the Hraunfossar Falls, and the historic village of Reykholt.
